NuMI-EcoSol’s Lines of Action

After the extension program INCOOP became a teaching, research and extension center, named NuMI-EcoSol, the intervention actions were organized and grouped in Lines of Actions, based on the previous activities that were developed.
According to NuMI’s internal regulation, in its Sole Paragraph of Article 8, each Line corresponds to the set of actions built and conducted in an interdisciplinary and multi-professional way, based on integrality and centered on the target population, integrating advising and consulting, knowledge production and education directed to human development based on the Solidarity Economy principles, considering groups specificities and/or the target population individual needs, respecting their singularities, subjectivity and in accordance with a project previously developed and negotiated between professionals and the target population.
We present below the eleven Lines of Actions and a summary of their description:
1) Education, Health and Citizenship: Line of action composed of four other lines of activities. Health: related to health promotion, food and nutritional security and quality of life; Ethno-motricity: it addresses leisure enjoyment and education of ethnic-racial relationships; Gender Issues and Mathematical Education: it is based on ethno-mathematics. The actions of this line are aimed at promoting actions that value and enhance citizen participation.
2) Solidarity Economy Movement: This line was designed to represent NuMI-EcoSol in diverse articulation instances of the Solidarity Economy movement, in municipal, state, national and international contexts. It is responsible for promoting discussions about policies, evaluation and the development of partnerships with different actors and areas of discussion, as well as fostering Solidarity Economy.
3) Commercialization and consumption relations: the aim of this line is to study consumption practices, commercialization processes and conditions of promoting ethical, responsible and solidary consumption and commerce. This line has analyzed the viability of expanding commercialization opportunities of Solidarity Economy products including the academic environment.
4) Solidarity Economy and Territorial Development: The aim of this line is to foster Territorial Development through Solidarity Economy initiatives. It is composed of four other lines that correspond to the nature of the fostered productive actions: cleaning, solidarity finance, food and culture.


5) Teaching, Research and Extension in Solidarity Finance: This line studies and proposes activities considering a broader focus on Solidarity Finances as a condition to promote and consolidate the expansion of SEE.
6) Promotion of new enterprises and Solidarity Economy initiatives: When there are people interested in establishing enterprises or showing conditions identified as favorable of constituting an enterprise, this line is responsible for processing and sending the demands. Its goals are: a) To identify and systematize the possibilities of structuring new enterprises and economical initiatives in Solidarity Economy; b) To support and foster the formation of new enterprises that will work in the local community; c) To promote activities that predispose the organization for collective and qualified work in Solidarity Economy.
7) Formation in Solidarity Economy: The aim is to develop actions of education in Solidarity Economy either for enterprises or for the people who are part of NuMI, promoting discussions, developing materials, and others. This line is responsible for organizing the ACIEPE “Popular Cooperatives and Solidarity Economy: Knowledge Production, Professional Intervention and Professionals Education”.
8) Labor insertion of socially disadvantaged people through Solidarity Economy: It acts in the insertion of people with mental disorders and alcohol and drug users in Solidarity Economy initiatives and enterprises, aiming at expanding commercialization and income generation of its products, the insertion of SEE in Solidarity Economy networks and the development of homeless people’s awareness, mainly alcohol and drug users to be involved with activities of Solidarity Economy initiatives.
9) Network of Solidarity Economy Enterprises: The aim of this line is to promote the creation of networks between and with Solidarity Economy enterprises. Its actions, specifically, have focused on the context of recycled residues chain.
10) The Development of Solidarity Economy Consulting Actions at NuMI-EcoSol: The aim is to provide consulting actions and other brief and specific ways of intervention in Solidarity Economy that guide groups without incubation teams that are directly responsible for advising its activities, as well as managers and other social actors who require support to develop Solidarity Economy actions.
11) Partnership Relationship and Articulation: the aim of this line is to promote the expansion and improvement of partnerships between NuMI and different types of entities and movements involved, which show interest or potential to support Solidarity Economy enterprises and initiatives. Here are some examples of these partnerships: social movements, other incubators, extension group work of UFSCar and other institutions, civil society organizations, public power, other enterprises, etc.


Although the Lines of Actions have specific goals in terms of its actions, they can work together to promote and strengthen Solidarity Economy different actions. Regarding NuMI-EcoSol’s functioning, information exchange happen in general weekly meeting, when the ones responsible for the actions can share, discuss and establish partnerships between the lines for their activities.
In addition to the Lines of Action mentioned, NuMI also has an Administrative Manager Board (AMB) that deals with administrative issues and space organization. Its creation was very important for NuMI, since this type of support did not exist before.
